Well-Known Works

Biography

A composer of the southern Netherlands who was a lay member of the Carmelite monastery. Being a possible resident of the Liege diocese would explain the French character of Chaumont's music. The body of his known musical compositions were written for the organ and called for numerous tone colors. Chaumont's music is contained in approximately eight suites arranged in 12 to 15 pieces. The pieces within this corpus of literature included preludes, dialogues, fugues, and chaconnes. His music is charcterized by reflective thought, aesthetically pleasing sounds, and peaceful and smooth countrapuntus. ~ Keith Johnson
