Tomás de Santa María

Biography

Tomás de Santa María was a Spanish organist, composer, and music theorist remembered for his comprehensive pedagogical text Arte de tañer fantasia. The book contained the earliest known description of keyboard technique, and his innovative methods of chordal improvisation were a precursor to the Baroque concept of figured bass.
