Gustav Holst es uno de los compositores británicos más importantes de la primera mitad del siglo XX. De su extensa y rica obra, en la que hay ecos del romanticismo alemán e influencias de la filosofía oriental, destaca la famosa suite para gran orquesta The Planets, escrita entre 1914 y 1917, una innovadora obra sobre el sistema solar dividida en siete movimientos.
