Monty Hancock

In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. My grandmother had a brown upright in the study of her bungalow in Chichester, with the sheet music kept inside the stool. She played Bach preludes on it, softly, and in the afternoons she'd make me Earl Grey and listen to me try to play too. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Khruangbin, Con Todo El Mundo Ludovico Einaudi, Islands - Essential Einaudi Porter Robinson, Worlds Ludovico Einaudi's Islands is the reason I learned this kind of piano at all. Porter Robinson's Worlds taught me not to be shy of an uplifting melody. Khruangbin's Con Todo El Mundo showed me how much an instrumental record can say without a word. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Feel Small” 'Feel Small' is where I found the feeling I'd been circling for years: "slightly inadequate, but willing to try." Everything I've written since is an attempt to keep that in a melody. If you asked me what my music is about, I'd play you this one. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? In September 2024 I sat at a real felt piano at Karma Sounds for the first time, after years on MIDI. A year later in September 2025, almost to the day, Feel Small was added to Piano Chill. September keeps telling me to make more of this music. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I haven't played live yet, and I want to: a solo show in three movements, afternoon to night, listened to in the dark. I'd love to score a short film. And one day, to be asked to collaborate by someone whose music I've learned on the piano.
