The Piano Guys

The Piano Guys are a Southern Utah-based group who have carved out a devoted following among classical-crossover fans with their inventive pop and film score performances. The band, comprising pianist Jon Schmidt, cellist Steven Sharp Nelson, producer Al van der Beek and videographer Paul Anderson, got their start filming promotional performance videos at Anderson’s piano store, The Piano Guys, which became the group’s early homebase and creative testing ground. Their videos, often shot in stunning outdoor locations and combining classical instrumentation with pop sensibility, quickly went viral, building a massive online audience. The Piano Guys broke through commercially in 2012 with their self-titled second album, which featured inventive instrumental covers of Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” and One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful”. They cemented their crossover appeal with the 2014 album Wonders, which reached No. 12 on the Billboard 200. Since then, the group has continued to blend classical craftsmanship with contemporary flair, performing at the 2017 Presidential Inauguration and collaborating with an eclectic array of artists, including legendary tenor Plácido Domingo, rock icon Cliff Richard, and violinist and dancer Lindsey Stirling.
