Baroklyn

Baroklyn is a Brooklyn-based string ensemble founded and directed by pianist Simone Dinnerstein. The players share a common artistic vision that music should be creative and continuously renewed, and rehearse and perform in a semicircle around the piano to foster close musical dialogue. The ensemble's approach to music-making draws from theater practice. Baroklyn's repertoire spans from Baroque to contemporary music, with a particular focus on works by Johann Sebastian Bach and Philip Glass. Dinnerstein considers Glass's music to share a natural affinity to Bach's through its multi-linear, horizontal character. Following the 2025 all-Bach release Complicité, Dinnerstein and the ensemble released Hourglass on Naïve Records in 2026, featuring a Suite from The Hours and Glass's Tirol Concerto for piano and orchestra.
