Osnat Netzer

Biography

The works of composer Osnat Netzer take inspiration from scientific ideas and are marked by an unusual degree of collaboration. In 2019, Netzer joined the faculty at DePaul University in Chicago; by the mid-2020s, she had advanced to the rank of associate professor. An early Netzer composition to be recorded was Taksim for marimba (2009), which appeared on the album Intermediate Masterworks for Marimba. Netzer has had works commissioned by various leading performers oriented toward contemporary music, including ICE (the International Contemporary Ensemble), as well as by individual performers such as soprano Lucy Dhegrae. She is also active as a pianist, performing her own works as well as those of other contemporary composers. In 2024, the New Focus Recordings label issued an entire album, Osnat Netzer: Dot : Line : Sigh, devoted to the composer's works.
