Avner Dorman
Biography
Avner Dorman is a composer and teacher. His sophisticated yet accessible compositions often feature Jewish musical material and explore themes related to Jewish history and culture. He has received commissions from major orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Chicago Symphony, and the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra. Eliran Avni released an album of his piano music in 2006 on Naxos and took part in a 2010 recording project of Dorman's concertos for mandolin, piano, and piccolo (Naxos). Other major recordings include Letters from Gettysburg and two smaller works that came out in 2017 (Canary Classics) and the inclusion of the Sextet for strings, trumpet, and piano on American Tapestry (2026, Pacific Symphony), which was conceived by his long-time champion, pianist Orli Shaham.
