Luke Bedford

Biography

Luke Bedford has, uncharacteristically for a contemporary composer, worked mostly in larger forms. He has written works for the London Symphony Orchestra, Ensemble Modern, and more. As early as 2002, Bedford's Five Abstracts for ensemble (2001) appeared on the anthology Live at the State of the Nation, released by the influential London Sinfonietta. From 2008 to 2011, Bedford served as the first-ever composer-in-residence at London's Wigmore Hall. His two operas, Seven Angels and Through His Teeth, were performed in both Britain and Germany, and the latter was recorded in 2018 by Opera Factory Freiburg in Germany. In 2023, Bedford's Staggered Nocturne for 14 players and percussion soloist was nominated for Best Chamber Ensemble Composition at the Ivors Classical Awards, and the following year, his In the Voices of the Living for tenor and chamber ensemble was featured on a collection of his works.
