Since winning the Mozart Competition in Salsburg in 1975 French pianist Michel Dalberto has firmly attained a status as one of his homeland’s most accomplished musicians. He’s performed with many leading orchestras, worked in chamber settings and accompanied singers like Jessye Norman, but he’s known best for his solo work, particularly the music of Franz Schubert. Dalberto recorded the composer’s entire output for the instrument. He’s duly appreciated for the elegance he brings to Mozart, and he’s also applied similar restraint to Debussy, Ravel, Beethoven and Schumann, eliding flash in favour of laser-sharp focus.
