Born in Japan and trained in Austria, UK-based Mitsuko Uchida is a deeply serious artist: her musical intelligence and curiosity bear fruit in everything she does. She seems to uncover a deep truth in the composers she champions, whether Mozart, Schumann or Schoenberg. She commands an extraordinarily wide range of colours at the keyboard—her classic recording of the Debussy Etudes a perfect example. She returned to the great Mozart piano concertos with the Cleveland Orchestra and carved a series of diamond-like interpretations.
