Autodidacta de la guitarra y el laúd, Philippe Pierlot se decantó por la viola de gamba desde su juventud, convirtiéndose en uno de los intérpretes más destacados de este instrumento. Como fundador y director del Ricercar Consort, Pierlot dedica la mayor parte de su trabajo al repertorio barroco con el objetivo de descubrirle al público compositores y obras de gran valor artístico, sin olvidarse de las piezas contemporáneas.
