Cuthbert Hely

Biography

Cuthbert Hely was a lutenist who may have been in service to Lord Herbert of Cherbury. He had a distinctive handwriting which became useful in identifying his works. Lord Herbert's Lutebook is the only source for Hely's compositions. The contents included preludes, fantasias, and a sarabande, which were characterized by counterpoint. ~ Keith Johnson
