Mahler: Symphony No. 3 in D Minor (Live)

Mahler’s Third Symphony is as much a philosophical statement as it is a symphony; throughout its six movements, the composer investigates profound existential questions about the meaning of human experience. Van Zweden and the Dallas Symphony Orchestra bring out the symphony’s moments of levity and pain, ultimately emphasising its benevolent message. The choirs and soloist in the fifth movement are angelic, and Van Zweden’s presentation of the sixth movement is particularly touching, emphasising the emotional lyricism of one of the composer’s most moving and ambitious works.
