Biography

Richard Causton is one of the most prominent British contemporary composers of acoustic music, with an idiom influenced by the modernist tradition but also sometimes by world music. By 1997, Causton had already written a number of works, including the chamber orchestra piece The Persistence of Memory (1995), which has become one of his best-known works. Causton has composed several works for orchestra, including Millennium Scenes (1999) and Ik zeg: NU (I say: NOW), which was premiered by conductor Sakari Oramo and the BBC Symphony Orchestra at the Barbican Hall in January of 2019 and released on an album in 2022. More than a dozen of his works had been recorded as of the early 2020s.
