Biography
Judenkunig was a German lutenist and teacher who went to Vienna before 1518 as the last years of his life (1518-1526) were spent there. The primary contributions that Judenkunig made to the musical world were his two pedagogical lute books. "Utilis et compendiaria introductio" established a basis for playing the lute and included songs and ode settings in two and three parts. The second book, "Ain schone kunstliche Underweisung. . .zu lernen auff der Lautten und Geygen," was written in two parts. The first part concerned the intablature of the fingering and the five positions for the left hand, while the second part was a musical manual of instruction and illustration of intabulating vocal music. ~ Keith Johnson
