New Year's Concert 2018 (Neujahrskonzert 2018 / Concert du Nouvel An 2018) [Live]

Riccardo Muti returns to conduct the Wiener Philharmoniker’s New Year’s Day Concert for the fifth occasion in a time-honoured programme of waltzes, polkas and marches by Johann Strauss I and II, plus music by von Suppé and the little-known Austro-Hungarian composer Alfons Czibulka. It’s Strauss most of the way though, with pieces including the Thunder and Lightning Polka (“Unter Donner und Blitz”), Blue Danube Waltz (“An der schönen blauen Donau”), Radetzky March (“Radetzky-Marsch”) played with wit and gusto—all lapped up by the high-spirited Viennese audience.
