Mack Gordon

Biography

Prolific lyricist Mack Gordon, often in tandem with greats like Harry Revel or Harry Warren, helped create the romantic backdrop of movies of the 1940s & '50s with enduring standards such as "Did You Ever See a Dream Walking?," "You'll Never Know," and "At Last." While his compositions were often mooning and honeyed, they rarely fell into cliche, and at their best were simple, sweet, poetic beauty--grandeur without the grandiloquence. Almost a half-century after Gordon's death, his words enchanted a nation again as newly minted President Barack Obama chose "At Last" as his inaugural dance in 2009.
