Ernst Gottlieb Baron

Biography

The musicographer, lute player and composer who studied lute with Kohott, and traveled to a great extent throughout Germany until he was able to find steady work under Crown Prince Frederick of Prussia. As a writer Baron's "Untersuchung" tells a great deal about lute playing and lute players in the mid-eighteenth century. His compositions are reflective of the late baroque period with tendencies toward a more elegant style ushering in classical methods. ~ Keith Johnson
