Kirill Gerstein

Biography

The Russian-born pianist Kirill Gerstein won several major awards in the U.S., where he was partly trained. He is a truly international figure, familiar as a pianist in several countries, and he divides his time between the U.S., where he became a citizen in 2003, and Germany, where he is a noted educator. In addition to classical music, he has had a significant engagement with jazz. Gerstein's recording debut came in 2004 with the album Kirill Gerstein Plays Bach, Beethoven, Scriabin, Gershwin/Wild. In the early 2020s, he moved to Deutsche Grammophon, recording several albums in the label's "Rachmaninoff 150" series. He released a pair of albums in 2024, joining Ferenc Rados on an album of Mozart sonatas for piano four hands and releasing the album Music in Time of War, featuring music by Debussy and Komitas.
