Ethelbert Nevin

Biography

A composer from the United States, Nevin studied piano with Lang and composition with Emery. Traveling throughout the European world he was able to apply to Richard Strauss for composition lessons but was not admitted. He composed a number of short piano pieces and songs. Most of his music was characteristically gentle and light with some indications of self-examination. Three of his "Water Scenes" were danced early by the young Isadora Duncan, who, after becoming renowned still kept them in her repertoire. ~ Keith Johnson
