Louis-Antoine Dornel
Biography
Organist and composer who was appointed church organist at Ste Madeleine-en-la-Cite Paris over Rameau. A number of critical acclaims are referenced to Dornel in the "Mercure de France" for his motets -- none of which have survived. Other compositions which are extant include instrumental compositions, violin sonatas, flute suites, trio sonatas, harpsichord pieces and secular vocal music. Dornel's only theoretical treatise declaims the use of key-signatures with more than three sharps. His writing was consistently polyphonic betraying his organ expertise. ~ Keith Johnson
