AVA, made up of composing duo Anna Phoebe and Aisling Brouwer, bring the full weight of their talents to a beautiful debut album that, in their words, mourns Britain’s Brexit decision. Each track, scored for violin and keyboards, is enriched by a deep, often melancholic electronic energy that reflects their shared love of ambient and European house music. “In Motion” encapsulates this musical fusion, while “Into the Deep” points to their strong European roots (Phoebe has German, Greek, and Irish heritage while Brouwer is Dutch/Irish) with flashes of folk melodies underpinned by pulsating bass. The solemn “To Be Alone” and “Ocean” stand as their lament for an island nation in a period of uncertainty.
