Ernst Mahle

Biography

German-born composer Ernst Mahle spent most of his career in Brazil, becoming an important figure in that country's musical life. He was also an educator and conductor who founded an influential music school. Mahle's works have been recorded both in Brazil and beyond. He remained active into extreme old age, issuing a new opera, Isaura, in his nineties. He won various awards, including the Marius Staden Prize in 2006. Mahle died in Pracicaba on May 12, 2025. By that time, recordings of about ten of his works were listed in international catalogs.
