Franchois Lebertoul

The first mention of Lebertoul discovered is a reference in Cambrai Cathedral where he was probably a singer in the chorus paricularly during festivals of the liturical calendar (1409-1410). Presently the composition of five chansons are attributed to him. They are characterized by elaborate cross-rhythms, decided harmonic changes and sweeping, intricate vocal passages. "Au pain faitich" and "O mortalis/O pastores/O vos multi" were composed by Lebertoul. The later is interesting as a triple ballade with three separate texts in Latin. ~ Keith Johnson
