Jeff Scott

Biography

Jeff Scott is a composer, horn player, and arranger whose work lies at the intersection of classical music, jazz, and African American musical traditions. A founding member of the acclaimed wind quintet Imani Winds, he has established himself as both a distinguished performer and the creator of an extensive body of chamber music. His compositional style, characterized by a keen sense of rhythm, rich instrumental color, and the integration of improvisation, reflects a commitment to bringing diverse musical traditions into dialogue rather than treating them as separate worlds. This artistic vision reaches a compelling synthesis in Passion for Bach and Coltrane, an expansive work inspired by the poetry of A.B. Spellman that unites the musical languages of Johann Sebastian Bach and John Coltrane within a single architectural framework; the composition received a Grammy Award in 2024.
