Beethoven & Sibelius: Violin Concertos

If you thought you knew Beethoven’s Violin Concerto well, just listen to this wonderful recording. Christian Tetzlaff has been playing the work for his entire adult life, and he brings an attention to the detail of the score like few other violinists. The quiet moments are breathtakingly hushed yet full of intensity, while he allows the music to erupt when necessary. It’s like hearing the concerto for the first time. And the same might be said of the Sibelius, which is also alive with imagination and originality. It’s a magnificent album aided by Robin Ticciati’s totally sympathetic partnership on the podium.
