Biography
"Il ballarino" and "Nobilta di dame" constitute the corpus of the contributions that Caroso made to the world of music. Primarily they are both sources of dance music and dance steps from the Italy of the 16th century. The music contained in these works are for the lute and the music is simply typical of the time. Caroso's works are still useful today, however, in that they provide an understanding of how the rhythm of the dance step was combined with the rhythm of the music. The probability of the presence of variations in his music was indicated by the numerous times certain sections of the music needed to be repeated. ~ Keith Johnson
