Biography
French violinist and composer Émile Sauret was a child prodigy who began his studies at the conservatory in Strasbourg when he was six and started giving concerts at the age of eight. His teachers included Charles de Bériot and Henri Vieuxtemps. Sauret became world renowned in the 1870s, and his tours took him to the major music capitals, including Vienna, Paris, and London. By 1890 he settled in England and accepted a professorship of violin at the Royal Academy of Music. Sauret's career extended for more than a half century, and he composed many pieces for violin and piano, mostly of a picturesque or sentimental nature, as well as cadenzas for concertos.
