Biography
Warren Ellis is an Australian musician and composer best known as a co-founder of instrumental rock trio Dirty Three, for his film score collaborations with Nick Cave, and as musical director of Cave's Bad Seeds. A classically trained violinist, Ellis formed Dirty Three in 1992 with guitarist Mick Turner and drummer Jim White. Throughout the '90s, the band released acclaimed recordings, including 1996's Horse Stories and 1998's Ocean Songs. He joined the Bad Seeds in the early 21st century and began his longstanding partnership with Cave. Among their many scores are 2009's The Road, 2016's Hell or High Water, and 2024's Back to Black. They also released the duo album Carnage. Ellis reunited with Dirty Three for Love Changes Everything, their first album in 12 years, then composed the score for the Oscar-winning Brazilian film I'm Still Here.
