Thomas Damett

An English composer who served in Wiltshire. Damett's will and nine pieces of music survive. The musical pieces include mass parts and other sacred pieces. Characteristics of his work include the use of the square (a 14th century polyphonic bottom part used in later compositions), proportional writing (time signatures indicating a proportional change in note values for one voice to all), and ornamentation. ~ Keith Johnson
