Pablo Bruna

Biography

This Spanish composer was also an organist who was blinded during his youth. He was considered to be one of the best organists in Spain. Bruna's compositional forte was the Spanish form for organ known as the "tiento" (much the same as fantasias or ricercares). Bruna showed a great deal of diversity in this one form; some pieces were short and soft while others were long and loud. Bruna's tientos are often close knit imitations but they could also include variations or even extensive themes one immediately following another as if to follow a given order. ~ Keith Johnson
