Es ist ein Werk von großer Überzeugungs- und Ausstrahlungskraft, das hier in einer Live-Aufnahme zu hören ist. Robert Oppenheimer, der von Zweifeln geplagte Wissenschaftler im Zentrum des Geschehens, wird von Gerald Finley mit allen charakterlichen Facetten sehr authentisch und souverän dargestellt. Finley sang diesen Part schon bei der Premiere und in vielen weiteren Inszenierungen. Julia Bullock, Brindley Sherratt, Samuel Sakker und Andrew Staples brillieren in ihren Nebenrollen und Adams selbst führt das sehr präsente BBC Symphony Orchestra zu musikalischen Höchstleistungen.
