Daniel Strong Godfrey

Daniel S. Godfrey is a classical composer and academic. Known for his elegant style that blends meticulous craftsmanship with sweeping lyricism, he has written an expansive body of chamber, orchestral, and symphonic band music. In 2025, he released Toward Light: Three Quintets on New Focus Recordings. That album brought together quintets written between 2006 and 2023, each scored for string quartet and a different additional instrument: piano, guitar, or cello, and was performed by the Cassatt String Quartet with guest artists Ursula Oppens, Eliot Fisk, and Nicole Johnson.
