Biography
A Bohemian violinist, conductor, and composer who became the Director of Instrumental Music at the Mannheim court in 1750. Under his direction the orchestra became known throughout Europe and provided the model for what was to become the standard classical orchestra. His 56 extant symphonies are among his most important works. ~ Mary K. Scanlan
