Carter: Late Works

American composer Elliott Carter wrote some of his finest works in his final years, and five of them are recorded here for the first time. The stellar lineup includes a BBC Symphony Orchestra in thrilling form on Interventions, with pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard adding virtuosity and finesse—as he does to Dialogues and Dialogues II. 2 Controversies and a Conversation, meanwhile, features a sparkling performance from percussionist Colin Currie. Instances and Epigrams, both written when Carter was 103, possess all the mischief you’d expect from a much younger composer, and they are performed with great humour.
