Biography

Aguirre received his education at the Madrid Conservatory. In 1886 he returned to Argentina and established himself as a pianist. He eventually settled in Buenos Aires where he played an important role in the music of the city. His compositions, mostly for voice or small instrumental ensembles, are written in a nationalist style that utilizes Creole melodies. He earned a reputation as one of the most valued Argentinian composers of his time. ~ Lynn Vought
