Moretti was his teacher and Ponchieli and Bottesini his contemporaries. Cagnoni was an Italian composer who wrote in a number of genres including operas, drammas, melodramas, comic operas, and a requiem mass. "Don Bucefalo," "Michele Perrin," and "Papa Martin" were jsut some of Cagnoni's operas. The character of his best scores was forward-looking. Antonio Cagnoni used clearly defined musical ideas to represent (or, be sung by) individuals in the opera. He also employed the use of wide steps between notes in melodic lines. ~ Keith Johnson
