Pierre Fontaine

As a choirboy and singer, Fontaine served in the courts of the various Dukes of Burgundy during his life as well as the chapel of Pope Martin V in northern Italy. It was thought that musical training, if any, occurred through the Cathedral of Rouen. The music which he composed consists primarily of French chansons though former scholars have attributed mass movements to him. Songs that are extant consist of rondeaux and ballades. Fontaine's songs were quite short, perhaps 11 bars, compared with other contemporaries. Though little remains of his work, he was well known during his liftime. ~ Keith Johnson
