Biography
Gabriel Kahane is a singer/songwriter, pianist, composer, and musical polymath equally at home in classical, theater, jazz, and adult pop settings. He first came to national attention in 2006 for his playful Craigslistlieder, which set personal ads to theatrical piano accompaniment. (He would later take on celebrity tweets.) His adult alternative singer/songwriter debut took the form of the earnest and lyrical Where Are the Arms in 2011. He made his Billboard classical debut with 2016's The Fiction Issue, a collaboration with string quartet Brooklyn Rider. In 2018, the solo album Book of Travelers reflected on a cross-country train trip he took for the express purpose of eschewing technology to encourage human interaction. Similarly, 2022's Magnificent Bird comprised songs written during a year spent offline. The more personal piano concerto Heirloom, featuring the Knights with his father, Jeffrey Kahane, on piano, appeared in 2025.
