The patriarch of a Belgian family of musicians Adrien played the cello but initially began with the violin. Studying with Platel at the Brussels Conservatory, Servais won a first in 1829. He assisted Platel with his teaching, and gave concerts in Paris and London, Europe and Russia. Servais was noted for his cello playing and was at times considered the best in his day.
