Vincenzo Calestani

Well-Known Works

Biography

An Italian composer of songs from the vicinity of Pisa. It is possible that Calestani had some connection with the Medici court; regardless, the only volume of music attributed to him was his "Madrigali et arie. . .parto primo" (Madrigals and arias, first part) containing 25 pieces for the solo voice and three duets. Calestani's music illustrates an adeptness for maintaining the structure of a piece of music in admirable fashion. One of his most famous songs was "Damigella, Tutta Bella" which was quite familiar. ~ Keith Johnson
