Cornelis Schuyt

Biography

Studying the organ with his father and succeeding him at the Pieterskerk, Schuyt's compositions and playing were highly lauded. He is considered to be the leading madrigalist and organist in the history of Leiden even though his compositions reflect a definitive Italian influence obtained form his three or four years stay in Italy. Schuyt's compositions included motets, madrigals, a puzzle canon as well as some instrumental pieces set for lute or organ. ~ Keith Johnson
