Karl Davydov

Biography

This Russian composer and cellist was a student of Schmidt and Hauptmann. Davidov held the first chair in The Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra and also taught at the Conservatory. After this position he became the first chair in the St Petersburg Opera and a professor at that Conservatory. The compositions which he composed include cello concertos and many other pieces for his instrument, a Russian fantasy, chamber music, songs, and a methodological text. ~ Keith Johnson
