Roman Pawollek

Biography

Roman Pawollek is a composer and pianist based in Vienna whose compositional work centers on chamber music, with a secondary interest in film scoring. He has taught at the Friedrich Gulda School of Music in Vienna since 2021. In his concert music, he often explores how different performance techniques combine to produce distinctive sonic results. His piece Aquarell, for flute and cello, reduces the fundamental tones of the cello's open strings to emphasize the overtones that emerge between the two parts. His 2006 piano trio appears alongside works by Haydn and Smetana on the 2023 album E.T.A. spielt, recorded by Trio E.T.A.
