Antonio Maria Bononcini

Biography

A member of the Italian family of musicians and composers Antonio wrote numerous dramatic works -- including operas and oratorios -- and a number of cantatas. It is thought that his primary instrument was the cello as his first piece -- composed at the age of fifteen -- contained an effectual display for the cellist. ("La fama eroica".) Antonio's production may have been less numerous than his brother Giovanni's but his music was much more advanced and forward looking with characteristic complex vertical and horizontal lines. ~ Keith Johnson
