Girolamo Fantini
Biography
A trumpeter and writer on the trumpet Fantini served in the court of the Duke of Tuscany, Ferdinando II, and traveled to Rome with Frescobaldi accompanying him on the organ: a concert of historic import. Fantini was an extremely talented trumpeter and was instrumental in releasing the trumpet from the confines of its former tonal range -- increasing its upper register -- and exclusive use for military and ceremonial occasions alone. The treatise he wrote for the trumpet was second, chronologically perhaps, only to that of Bendinelli. "Modo per imparare a sonare di tromba" is of great historical importance in that it included the first known pieces for trumpet and continuo. ~ Keith Johnson
