Thoinot Arbeau

This author and clergyman, Thoinot Arbeau, wrote three important books in reference to dance: "Metode et teorie en forme de discours et tablature pour apprende a dancer," "Kalendrier des bergers," and "Compot et manuel kalendrier." The latter contains continuous and integral references to music and the best instruments to employ for specific forms of terpsichordia. "Compot et manuel kalendrier" was also an excellent source for dance steps and a manuel for playing the music for the dances. ~ Keith Johnson
