In a show of both technical and recording-studio wizardry, Daniil Trifonov plays both parts of his virtuosic two-piano arrangement of a track from a classic John Williams soundtrack. “Man of the House” from Home Alone is a brilliantly vivid musical tableau of the young Kevin enjoying his new-found freedom, his parents having forgotten to take him on holiday.
“I played first one part and then overdubbed the other,” Trifonov tells Apple Music Classical. “Later in post-production, those tracks were layered together, so technically it’s two pianos playing.” There’s a Prokofiev-style blend of the frenetic, mischievous and lyrical in Williams’ music, which Trifonov highlights to superb effect.
