Biography

In the eighteenth century Molter was a prolific contributor to a number of different musical genres. Compositional categories included cantatas, violin studies, sinfonias, sonatas, concertos, keyboard music, and, ballet and chamber works. He worked in Karlsruhe for the Baden-Durlach court. Studying in Italy, Molter next spent time as the Kapellmeister in Eisenach, 1734-1741, and then returned to Karlsruhe to reformulate the Kapell. Living in the times of Bach, Telemann, Hertel and Stolzel, and, having studied in Italy, Molter's music exemplified a number of different influences. Within the content of his music was a movement from the Baroque to the galant style also characterized by an imaginative exploration of instrumentation. ~ Keith Johnson
